Understand the differences

SAP GUI is the desktop client used to connect to an SAP system. Eclipse with ADT is a separate development environment and is only needed for exercises that use ABAP Development Tools.

SAP GUI 8.10 for Microsoft Windows

Follow both steps. The first download installs the client; the second updates it with Patch 1.

Step 1

Install SAP GUI 8.10

Download and run the main installer before downloading a patch.

Download SAP GUI 8.10

Not sure? Check the SAP GUI edition installed on your computer. Most current installations use 64-bit, but the patch must match your installed client.

Compatibility option

Previous SAP GUI 8 for Windows

Use this older version only when SAP GUI 8.10 cannot be installed or has a compatibility problem on your computer.

Cross-platform

SAP GUI for Java 8.10

The Java client is the usual choice for macOS and Linux. A Windows version is also available, although the native Windows client above is recommended whenever possible.

ABAP development

Eclipse and ABAP Development Tools (ADT)

Eclipse is not a replacement for SAP GUI. It is a separate development environment used for modern ABAP development with ADT.

Install this section only if your training or development work specifically requires Eclipse or ABAP Development Tools.

2. Add the matching ADT repository

Use this update-site address inside Eclipse to install the SAP development tools for the same release.

Open ADT repository 2026-06
